The Sippy Cup Cutie!

For the past couple weeks, Livia has been very interested in drinking from our glass or bottle of water at dinner! We thought it was pretty cool that she is 5 months old and likes to drink from a big person glass! It was pretty funny...last night I splurged and had 7up to drink with dinner...of course Livia can't drink that so I made her, her own glass of water! As I was talking to my mom this morning she suggested we try a sippy cup...I knew I had one from a shower so I dug it out and researched it and it had great reviews (it is a Nuby)! So I put water in it and gave it to Liv to see what she would do with it....she immediately grabbed both handles and put it to her nose...she hasn't mastered putting her bottle in her mouth. We practiced with her a few times and she had it down! By the time I met my mom and dad in Jackson at 11:00, she was a pro! It was so cute seeing her with a sippy cup! I began to get a little worried about her being only 5 months...so I did some research and found that some babies begin as early as 4 months....AAP recommends introducing the cup earlier than later...and occupational therapist have been very successful introducing the straw between 4-6 months which helps with oral motor development...so after all the info I found, I was certain this was pretty normal! We are only letting her have the sippy cup in between her feedings and only putting water in it... not her formula. She is growing like a little weed and developing great!
