I can't express how excited Cody and I were all day about feeding Livia from a spoon tonight!!! For some reason I was wanting to wait until she was 5 months old which is next Monday! When we visited the doctor for her check up he told us we could start now if she was ready...he gave us the signs to look for and we agreed that she was doing a few of them but decided to wait a little longer! It seems as though Livia understood our convo because the week after the appointment she woke up every night at 1:00 a.m. hungry...she was even more interested in what we were eating....when you put something to her mouth she would open it...and she has more than doubled her birth weight...so we decided it was time! We used her bumbo seat with the tray attached to sit her in....I had bought an awesome bowl and spoon while we were in Texas to use and it all worked out great! She did so good!!! She ate all of the cereal! We made her 1/4 cup in all and it ended up being 3 tsp cereal to 12 tsp (2oz) milk. It was very runny and she loved every bit of it! She got a little fussy at the end, but it was because of the seat...we took her out and she gladly ate the rest! She has always liked the bumbo seat for a about 7 minutes and then she is ready for a change! Our baby is growing up and we are loving this stage so much!!!
We are extra excited to celebrate our first World Down Syndrome Day! Join us as we “Rock our Socks” for Lera! March 21 is World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD), the day the Down syndrome community creates a single, global voice advocating for the rights, inclusion and well being of people with Down syndrome. Every year, on March 21, people all around the world come together to celebrate by wearing brightly colored or mismatched socks. March 21 is symbolic because people with Down syndrome have 3 copies of their 21st chromosome. Socks were chosen because the karyotype of Down syndrome chromosomes actually looks like mismatched socks! We believe it is our family’s mission to raise awareness about our precious Lera, and help change the way the world views Down syndrome one extraordinary day at a time! 💛💙 If you choose to “Rock Your Socks” please share your picture with us to document on the blog! This blog will be printed and used as Lera’s baby book. If you choose...
Meet our precious baby girl, LERA MICHELLE! Cody and I are choosing to share Lera’s story to hopefully encourage others that may have a similar journey and help change the way the world views Down Syndrome! At 11 weeks our OB at the time noticed a thickened nuchal fold and suggested we do a genetic blood test. Honestly, we didn’t believe anything would be detected with our baby, we were just looking forward to finding out the gender so early. The results came back, and the screening detected a 76% predictive value for Trisomy 21. Definitely not something we ever expected. And the way it was presented to Cody and me made us leave the appointment scared, confused, and in denial of the results we had just been given. We cried, we were mad, we prayed and processed and prayed some more. We shared the results with our closest family and friends and just like us, they prayed over our baby daily. After t...
