World Down Syndrome Day {3•21•22}

Today was World Down Syndrome Day! We rocked our socks and shirts for our precious miracle baby, Lera! Liv and Lai even made a video to share with the world and spread awareness! 

Cody, Livia, Lailee, and I were completely overwhelmed at the love and support our family + friends have shown for Lera today! Our hearts are full of so many emotions…we are forever grateful for the village we have praying, supporting, guiding, and celebrating with us on this extraordinary journey. Thank you for choosing to be part of #lerasleague and spreading awareness, acceptance + inclusion for these precious angels. Sometimes the smallest thing can make the biggest change! We love you all!

We are extra excited to celebrate our first World Down Syndrome Day! Join us as we “Rock our Socks” for Lera!  March 21 is World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD), the day the Down syndrome community creates a single, global voice advocating for the rights, inclusion and well being of people with Down syndrome.  Every year, on March 21, people all around the world come together to celebrate by wearing brightly colored or mismatched socks.  March 21 is symbolic because people with Down syndrome have 3 copies of their 21st chromosome. Lera's Gift

                      Meet our precious baby girl, LERA MICHELLE! Cody and I are choosing to share Lera’s story to hopefully encourage others that may have a similar journey and help change the way the world views Down Syndrome! At 11 weeks our OB at the time noticed a thickened nuchal fold and suggested we do a genetic blood test. Honestly, we didn’t believe anything would be detected with our baby, we were just looking forward to finding out the gender so early. The results came back, and the screening detected a 76% predictive value for Trisomy 21. Definitely not something we ever expected. And the way it was presented to Cody and me made us leave the appointment scared, confused, and in denial of the results we had just been given.
